Jerry Humphries passed away a couple of days ago. His memorial service will be at the Bristow church at 10:00am on Saturday, June 25th.
Many of us older pastors remember Jerry as the caretaker of both the Bristow and Seminole campgrounds. He also pastored the Seminole church here in the state. He had other pastorates in Hawaii, California, Texas, and Indiana.
He leaves behind his wife Minnie and two kids, Melody Montgomery and David Humphries. You can read his obit below.
“Jerome Wesley Humphries was born November 7, 1932, to Gerald Earl and Gladys Dorothy Humphries in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On June 9, 2022 at the age of 89, Jerry closed his eyes in death here and opened them in heaven to behold the face of his Savior, Jesus where he heard the Lord God Almighty say “Well done my good and faithful servant”.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for twenty years, retiring at the rank of Technical Sergeant in 1971. He served in country during the Korean War and later during the Vietnam War at Hickam AFB in Hawaii.
On December 26, 1955, Jerome Wesley Humphries and Minnie Freeman were united in marriage. From this union were born two children, Melody, and David. During his years with the military the family lived in many different areas. He had also accepted the call to the ministry which took him to many churches such as, Kerrville, Texas, Hawaii, California, Houston, Texas, Seminole, Oklahoma, Anderson, Indiana, Campbellsville, Kentucky, and Bristow, Oklahoma. He was honored by the Church of God of Anderson Indiana for his 50 years of ministry. He graduated from Gulf Coast Bible College in 1975 Bachelor in Theology.
After retirement Jerry decided to work in the local hardware store as well as drive the school bus for Bristow Public Schools. The children who rode on his bus referred to him as “Mr. Sunshine”.
