GATHERING UP THE FRAGMENTS

By Eddie Wrinkle

“A Pastor’s Dream”

Genesis 37:5-6 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed.”

Joseph was one of the most well-known dreamers in the Bible. Many of us have dreams that are meaningless and never come true. On the other hand, God often gives us dreams that do come true. Such was Joseph’s dream, though it took about thirteen years to unfold. Don’t give up on your dreams. If they are from the Lord, He will bring them to pass.

Acts 2:17 says, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.” Several years ago, the Lord gave me a dream. I wrote it down in a poem:

I had a dream.

Many were being saved, sanctified, healed, and blessed.

Great revival had come to our church!

The people were faithful in their attendance – every service!

They were hungry for the Word of God.

They wanted to grow.

They wanted to learn.

They wanted to serve.

I didn’t have to beg them or urge them to come.

I didn’t have to plead with them to give.

I didn’t have to entreat them to serve.

They just came.

They just gave.

They just served – freely and without complaint.

What a wonderful dream!

But, alas, it was only a dream.

Did my dream ever come true? In some ways it did, but not in all the ways that I dreamed. But the dream gave me something to strive for. I wanted as much of it to come true as possible for the glory of God. And, for all of it that did come true, I give Him all the glory.

Every godly pastor prays for a dream like this to come true. The beautiful thing is, it can. Let’s pray for our pastors that the Lord will give them a dream, and let’s all do our best to make it come true in our local congregations, our state, our nation, and our world; for this is really God’s dream. Let’s make His dream come true. Until next time…

LET THERE BE LIGHT!
